She’s also lead singer with the popular Charlie Johnson Quartet.

Margaret performed for President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama. In 2013, Margaret debuted in Paris at the popular Le Baise Sale. Margaret Murphy-Webb was featured for a six month stint at the legendary Pump Room in Chicago’s Ambassador East Hotel. She’s opened for jazz pianists Joe Sample and Chick Corea, jazz great Milt Treiner, and the legendary Tower of Power, among others. Margaret Murphy-Webb credits the tutelage of renowned tenor saxophonist Von Freeman for helping her develop a unique vocal style. Freeman once claimed that “from the moment she steps onto the stage, she has the audience enraptured.” With him, Margaret performed at both the Chicago Jazz Festival and Taste of Chicago. She also appeared with Grammy award-nominated blues band Mississippi Heat at the Chicago Blues Festival. Now, Margaret’s band is a favorite at the famous Navy Pier Beer Garden Music Stage. A Chicago native, she’s worked across the years in just about every live music room in the metro area.

In 2007, Independent Radio awarded her for “Best Jazz Vocal Performance” on her debut solo album, “In Full Bloom.” Margaret also earned RadioIndy Gold Artist recognition for outstanding vocals on a jazz CD.

Tickets are available on our website or at our office. Enjoy live music that supports single-parent families experiencing homelessness at the New Orleans Jazz Brunch, headlined by the Sarah Marie Young Ensemble on September 28.

Sarah Marie Young
Back by popular demand, Sarah Marie Young will again headline HMHI’s 2013 New Orleans Jazz Brunch on September 29.

Sarah, an Indianapolis native, is a rising star. Schooled at the music school at Columbia College Chicago, she’s become known in jazz and r&b circles across the nation as the singer with the “intoxicating voice” (-Eric Schelkopf, The Total Scene). Now a staple on the Chicago jazz scene, she’s also making a name for herself at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, The Bowery Electric, Buddy Guy’s, Schubas and Lincoln Hall.

Her newly released first full length album, “Too Many Februaries”, recorded in Switzerland, compiles Sarah’s original narrative songs. They span many styles but are united by her clear, soulful voice, and a stellar, versatile band- Stu Mindeman (Gloria Estefan), Patrick Mulcahy (Patricia Barber) and Makaya McCraven (Bobby Broom).

Sarah and her ensemble have delighted diners of all previous Jazz Brunch events. We welcome her return to Davenport, Iowa! Tickets for the September 29 event are available at our office. This event will support HMHI’s programming, benefiting single-parent families who are experiencing homelessness.
