FALL Fresh Start Benefit Sale: September 23-24

Fall 2016 Fresh Start Benefit Sale

The semi-annual sale is upon us: the FALL Fresh Start Benefit Sale. Twice each year we open our warehouse to the public and allow them to access the beautiful merchandise supporters have donated to us. Although our families receive these items at no charge, the public is asked to contribute toward the support of the homeless families that we serve. But the prices help many families who appreciate the serviceable, gently-used and new items.

The Fall Fresh Start Sale is Friday and Saturday, September 23-24. While Friday hours are same as always–8 AM until 4 PM–the Saturday hours have changed to allow us to replenish the warehouse for the second day of the sale. Saturday’s sale hours are 9 AM until 3 PM.

Thousands attend Fresh Start Sale, Help local families experiencing homelessness

thanks Spring Sale
Our Spring Fresh Start Sale was a record-breaker. Your purchases will help local families who are experiencing homelessness.

HMHI’s major spring fundraiser last weekend, the Fresh Start Sale, set a record in raising funding to assist the families experiencing homelessness who benefit from the proceeds. The event was very well attended on Saturday and Sunday.

Fresh Start Sale Manager, Patti Trapp, credits the hard work of her team of regulars and event volunteers for the success of this spring sale. “People ran themselves ragged,” she recounted, as she reflected on the busy days of the sale. Customers commented that the sale was very well organized, the result of weeks of preparation.

The sale days were long days. It opened to the public at 8 AM and ran uninterrupted until 4 PM each day. Customers who wanted to access the best selection formed a long line as they waited for the doors to open. And customers waited patiently in a line again to pay for their newly-acquired bargains.

Public excitement about the sale prompted Facebook to send notice of it to tens of thousands of accounts. Many users shared the news. Others effusively thanked Humility of Mary Housing for the opportunity to help others while also getting items they needed. One commented: “I went today, came out with 2 bags full. Spent only $17.50 and it’s for a good cause.”

Fresh Start Sale Features

Saturday’s 50% price slash of the already-low clothing prices brought in throngs, who carried out purchases of designer and other major brand names like Jones New York, Ralph Lauren, Alfred Dunner, Talbots, Chicos, Coldwater Creek, White/Black, GAP, Ann Taylor, Eddie Bauer, Lands’ End, Haggar, Banana Republic, J. Jill, apt. 9, Pendleton, Vera Wang, Claiborne, Chaps, Tommy Bahama, Van Heusen, IZOD, J. Crew, and Dockers.

News Channel 4 provided extensive coverage of the sale, in a clip [CHANNEL 4 NEWS] featuring interviews with Patti Trapp, shoppers and sale volunteers.

Patti Trapp says that now work begins that will culminate in the Fall Fresh Start Sale, scheduled for the final weekend  in September. The donation center is again open for clothing and household goods that families can use to help them get themselves settled and stabilized in housing.

Thanks for a great Spring 2015 Fresh Start Benefit Sale!

Fresh Start Spring 2015
Shoppers purchased a record amount of merchandise at our Fresh Start Spring Sale.

We’re still crunching numbers, but thanks to all of you we are on a record pace as we total the numbers from our Fresh Start Benefit Sale 2015! Your support and patronage allow us to lift up and empower single parents who are on the path to lead a self-sufficient, productive life for themselves and their children.

Thanks to our generous donors, we had lots of merchandise to offer the public. It’s believed that this was our largest sale since we moved the Fresh Start Sale from its venue at the fairgrounds to our own office warehouse area.

Volunteers at HMHI logged 364.75 total hours of contributed assistance from March 20 through the end of the sale on Saturday. We could not handle an event of this magnitude without all that loyal support. Many of our volunteers work year after year, and all year around, to help us prepare for our seasonal sales. Our part-time workers through the AARP work program, coupled with full-time volunteers, contributed 143 hours during the sale week.

We also appreciate HyVee on East Kimberly for loaning us shopping carts and baskets for our Fresh Start patrons’ use. Our neighbors, Colonial Dental Studio and Jeanelle at Davenport Guns, were generous with their parking spaces for shoppers’ cars!

We appreciate everyone who helps us provide programming to families experiencing homelessness in the Quad Cities. This sale gives a second chance to merchandise that’s no longer needed. And the benefits of the sale give a fresh start to families in need. It’s a win-win for the Quad Cities. And, we appreciate everyone who makes it possible.

1st day of sale April 2015
Customers were lined up to be the first to shop on Day 1 of our Spring Fresh Start Sale.

The items we sold were donated over the last six months. Limits of space and time prevent us from retaining everything that’s donated until our program participants can utilize them. The sale allows us turn those assets into dollars that purchase goods and services needed to help our participant families. And, our donors appreciate that we’re employing Best Use Practices, deriving greatest value from their contributions.

Hope we’ll see you again in the fall! Our Fall Fresh Start Sale is September 24-25. We’re happy to receive your gently used, quality donations to help our program continue to assist families experiencing homeless in our community. Bring them to our office during our business hours. If you need some help, let us know. Thanks for your support.

April 2015 sale thanks

Patrons of Fall Sale Help Homeless Families

Fall Benefit Sale
Fall Benefit Sale augmented Humility of Mary Housing, Inc.’s ability to assist families experiencing homelessness while providing excellent merchandise to patrons and supporters.

A successful fall sale benefiting Humility of Mary Housing, Inc.’s programming, held October 17-18, helped fund the agency. Sale organizers reported that the two day sale netted $5400.

Certain desirable items from the sale that are still available will be posted on local online websites.

Collection of donations of used household items and clothing continues. Currently, the focus is on fall and winter clothing and outerware. Furniture is always welcome as the agency likes to provide basic household furniture to the incoming families in need. If possible, the families may take that furniture with them when they exit the program, to furnish their new housing of their own choosing.
