Shanna Wanton navigates the challenges of single parenthood every day. So she’d like to make that difficult path a bit easier for others by sharing the resources that she knows can help. Her proposed book, Single Parent Resource Guide, would do just that.
Shanna’s dream is succinct: “to empower single parents.”
The mother of four knows how critical that is. She’s navigated her own single-parent family through the experience of homelessness. Currently she’s utilizing the program at Humility of Mary Housing, Inc where she’s working to achieve housing stability.
Her resourceful and creative uses of support helped her navigate the economic challenges that she faced raising children on one income. What she learned, she believes, can help others who share limited resources.
Her book will catalogue community resources that single parents can access. Additionally it will suggest free and low cost local programs designed to strengthen American families.
Currently Shanna is competing for a $1000 grant to help her accomplish her goal. She asks you to support her by voting for her idea during July 16-31, 2010 when the public are invited to vote among the 27 (currently) proposed projects. You can vote daily during that time at
The grant site is a project of MyEntre.Net, Iowa’s online community for entrepreneurs and small business owners. It awards a grant of $1000 each month.
